About the series

4x4 Series gives creative performers the opportunity to think both outside and inside the box. Confined to a 4-foot by 4-foot square performance stage, artists create space-restricted works with one main guideline: stay within the dimensions.

Each work created serves as a purpose of either introducing one’s self to the audience, telling a story, sharing a new idea, or even to promote upcoming shows. All of this is performed in a community oriented, collaborative environment that connects performers to audience, performers to each other, and audiences to audiences. 4x4 Series was developed to network performing artists to one another, while combining communities to support the various emerging and established artistic voices in the Dallas arts community.

While dance-centric, 4x4 aims to serve performers of all media. While dance may be the primary medium, 4x4 opens itself to singers, musicians, actors, painters, and more. Each community holds values, stories, and lessons we can all learn from and teach each other. Our goal has always been to be a place to share, to connect, and to inspire our community while uplifting the voices of artists around us.
